THANE: An on-duty inspector and a constable with the traffic police were assaulted by two brothers who were among three men riding a motorcycle here on Wednesday night, said the police on Friday.
The siblings were under the influence of alcohol, said the police. Constable Amol Pawar, who was patrolling Wagle Estate, told the trio on the bike to pull over for verification of papers. "The rider was not wearing a helmet and Pawar realised two of them were under the influence of alcohol. The brothers, Dhiraj and Prashant Somaji, refused to take the test," police said.

Pawar called his senior, Anil Mangale, after which the duo took the test, which confirmed they had consumed alcohol, said an officer.

The police said when the duo was told to pay a fine they abused and pushed the two officials. Their friend was let off, said the police.
