Ujjain: UGC demands report on action taken from Vikram University on ragging incident


Ujjain: Another case of ragging has been reported from the Vikram University, (VU)’s Institute of Pharmacy, after four final year students allegedly misbehaved and manhandled two second year students, following their refusal to  fetch them liquor on Wednesday.

Two second year students of the Institute of Pharmacy on Thursday made a formal complaint to the anti-ragging committee of the University Grants Commission (UGC), which in turn directed the varsity and institute authorities to send them a report on action taken.

In their complaint, the victims including a local student, and another from Rajgarh district, alleged that final year students namely Akash Rathore, Virendra Khatri, Shubham Chaturvedi and Rohit Parmar (from Ujjain) had indulged in ragging.


On being contacted, institute head Kamlesh Dashora told Free Press that the varsity administration had informed him about the incident, and he had summoned the students. According to him, notices were issued to the accused students to be present before the institute’s anti-ragging committee on Saturday at 11 am, along with their parents and after that a report would be sent to the varsity, which would be forwarded to the UGC with its recommendation. He also said the victim students had also made a complaint to the Madhav Nagar police station, though in charge TI Gangan Badal said no FIR has been registered in the case.
