Disabled man lynched by group of men in Palwal

His sons had an altercation with accused a fortnight ago

A 60-year-old disabled man was allegedly battered to death by a mob of around two dozen men in a village in neighbouring Palwal on Wednesday.

The incident comes days after the man’s son objected to one of the accused allegedly making videos of random girls and sharing them on social networking platforms.

Making videos

Ramzan, a resident of Ghagot village, was alone at home in the evening when a mob armed with lathis and bricks attacked him and battered him to death. Ramzan’s son Samoon said he and his younger brother had an altercation with a group of young men a fortnight ago when they noticed them making videos of random girls.

“We recently found that a group of young men in the village would secretly film girls going to school and fields, and shared the videos on WhatsApp. When we asked them to mend their ways, an altercation broke out. My younger brother slapped one of the young men in the heat of the moment. At this, the men threatened us with dire consequences and left. The mob had actually come to our house looking for me on Wednesday when they found my father instead and murdered him,” said Samoon.

No arrests yet

Twelve people have been named in the FIR, but no arrests have been made so far. “All the accused are on the run. Several teams have been sent out in their search,” said Palwal police spokesperson Sanjay Kumar. Samoon claimed the accused were still threatening them on the phone.
