BALLSTON SPA — A man convicted of targeting women and breaking into their homes and bedrooms was sentenced Friday morning to 30 years in prison for crimes that a judge called "particularly sinister."

Saratoga County Judge James A. Murphy III handed down the sentence against Ramiz Hajratalli, calling the Saratoga Spring man "every parent's worst nightmare."

In February, a Saratoga County jury found Hajratalli guilty of entering a Caroline Street home and a Jumel Place residence on different dates last summer while the occupants were sleeping, the district attorney's office said Tuesday.

Hajratalli was convicted of two counts each of burglary and criminal mischief.

In both cases, occupants awoke after Hajratalli entered their bedroom, officials said.

"Their testimony recounted the sense of fear and shock of being suddenly awaken(ed) and finding a stranger in their bedrooms," District Attorney Karen Heggen said.
