Vice-Chancellor terms overall pass percentage ‘low’

Girls outdid boys in the annual Osmania University (OU) undergraduate examinations. According to the data released by the university on Thursday, the overall pass percentage for the undergraduate courses examinations, which includes B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. and B.B.A., of boys stood at 46.97% while that of girls was 66.05%.

Addressing the media, O.U. Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandram said girls have been consistently performing better better than boys in the examinations. “The girls’ pass percentage has been increasing. This is not only for undergraduate courses, but also for post-graduate courses,” he said.

Describing the overall pass percentage of 57.10% as ‘low’, Prof. Ramachandram said it is a matter of concern. The varsity is likely to convene a meeting of principals and members of the faculty of its affiliated colleges to discuss the issue.

He expressed satisfaction that the results were announced just 36 days after the examinations. Taking questions from the media, the V-C underscored that while students have the option of re-evaluation of answer scripts, they can also obtain a copy of their answer scripts for ₹1,000.

He said the option of challenge-valuation is also available to students if they feel they have been given a low score. Students will have pay ₹10,000 if they wish to challenge their score. If the contention for challenge-valuation is found valid, the payment would be refunded, he said.
