AMUSU president opposes course on ‘Islamic terrorism’, writes to HRD ministry

In a letter written to the Minister for Human Resource Development, the president of Aligarh Muslim University Student Union (AMUSU) Maskoor Ahmad Usmani has opposed the proposed course on ‘Islamic Terrorism’ at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The Student Union of AMU has alleged that it was an effort to give ‘religious colour’ to terrorism and has sought roll back of such proposal.

In his letter written on Thursday, the AMUSU president Maskoor Ahmad Usmani has drawn attention of Prakash Javedkar, the Minister for Human Resource Development towards recent resolution of Jawaharlal Nehru University Academic Council where a proposal regarding introduction of a new course on ‘Islamic Terrorism’ has been passed.

“It is extremely disgusting and shocking to see that how one of the most prestigious universities in India is hell bent to give religious colour to terrorism and this perhaps reflects deep rooted agenda to malign a specific religion,” reads the letter sent by Maskoor Ahmad Usmani, president of AMUSU.

“There is paucity of funds for existing courses but still such proposals are being passed for new courses,” alleged AMUSU president.

‘Being a responsible citizen of India, I felt duty-bound to seek roll back of the proposal by university in interest of the nation and society and thus sought intervention by minister,” wrote Usmani.
