Noah Edwards drove in three runs to spark Queensbury to a 10-6 win over No. 3 Scotia in the Class A baseball semifinals Thursday at Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany.
The Spartans' right fielder had the highlight of the game when he scored on an inside-the-park home run in the fourth to give No. 2 Queensbury (15-4) a 6-1 lead. He led off the game with a triple and scored on Mike Guido's single to get the Spartans rolling early.
The Tartans trailed the entire game, but had a chance to rally in the fifth. Scotia had the bases loaded with nobody out, but failed to push a run across.
Queensbury starter Jack Sylvia allowed a solo home run to Tyler Cannoe in the second, but was solid otherwise in 51/3 innings. Sylvia struck out four.
Scotia touched up the Queensbury bullpen for four runs in the seventh, but could get no closer.
More baseball: Top seed Amsterdam scored early and often and held on for an 11-7 win over No. 4 Lansingburgh in the other Class A semifinal. Francisco Rodriguez-Santana, Owen Devine and Jake Greco had RBI singles and Ryan Bradt drove in another run with a triple as Amsterdam jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Rams added four more in the second, two on wild pitches. Michael Rocas added an RBI triple and scored to make it 9-0 Amsterdam. The Knights loaded the bases in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Donte Guzman had an RBI double to highlight a three-run third-inning rally. Anthony Combs added a three-run double in the fifth to pull Lansingburgh within 11-7, but that was as close as the Knights would get.
