Dalits of Kagupadu allege harassment by TDP leaders

Women from Kolleru villages complained that groundwater in their villages was getting polluted because of unregulated aquaculture.

The women met YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as he entered the Undi Assembly Constituency from the Unguturu constituency in West Godavari district on Thursday.

Mr. Jagan, who began his padayatra from Saripalli village in the Unguturu constituency, touched Aaredu, Uppuluru, Pamulaparru, Venkatarajupuram and Pedakapavaram in the Undi constituency.

Responding to the plight of the women, Mr. Jagan said that aquaculture in Kolleru would be regulated by the YSR Congress on coming to power. He walked 12.7 km on 170th day of his 3,000-km Praja Sankalpa Yatra.

Earlier, dalits of Kagupadu village in the Unguturu constituency complained to Mr. Jagan that TDP leaders were subjecting them to harassment.

Power tariff issue

Aqua farmers of Aaredu village said unless power tariffs were reduced it would be difficult for the them to continue. Some farmers from Pamulaparru said they had engineering and other degrees but were doing aquaculture as they lacked employment. Meanwhile, Vizag-based builder M. V. V. Satyanarayana joined the YSRCP at Kolamuru.
