Bhopal: Man booked for abetting woman’s suicide


Bhopal: Misrod police have booked a man on charges of abetment to suicide of his fiancée, who had ended her life on March 12 over dowry demand. The deceased Kavita was found hanging at her home near 11 Mile square. Their marriage was to be solemnised on April 18.

During the police investigation, it was found that the would-be groom Ramesh Rajput demanding dowry had threatened the girl to call off their wedding if his demands were not met. Unable to bear the pressure, the depressed girl, eldest among 4 siblings, took the extreme step. According to SHO of Misrod Sanjeev Chouksey, deceased Kavita, 17, daughter of Sukhram Rajput ended her life on March 12. The deceased had left studies after class 7th.

Police scanned the call recordings of the two and on the basis of their conversation found out that the man was pressuring the girl for dowry. Police have booked the man under section 306 of the IPC.   Kavita’s family had fixed her marriage with Ramesh Rajput, a native of Kalapipal two years back. The duo was to get married on April 18. After their engagement, the two started talking to each other over phone on regular basis.


On the night of March 12, during their telephonic conversation, Ramesh told Kavita to ask her parents to arrange for gold chain, ring and cash. He also threatened to cancel their marriage if his demands were not met. Hearing this Kavita started crying and handed over the phone to her mother and went inside her room.

After disconnecting the phone, her mother went to Kavita’s room to console her. Finding the room locked, she called her son to open the door.  When despite their repeated calls, Kavita did not respond, they broke open the door, only to find her hanging from ceiling fan. They rushed her to nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The matter was reported to police.
