Woman faces multiple charges over alleged catfishing scams

A Canberra woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly defrauding multiple victims through catfishing scams.

Police said the 27-year-old Lyneham woman's alleged crimes had taken place over several years, with her alleged victims giving her money believing it was for her child's medical treatment.

The woman is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, facing numerous charges of obtaining property by deception.

ACT Policing urges anyone who suspects they may be a victim of this type of fraud to report it by calling 131 444.
