The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), Allahabad, will conduct combined state/upper subordinate services (mains)-2017, commonly known as UP PCS (mains), in Lucknow and Allahabad from June 18 to July 6.

The examination dates have been announced by UPPSC after the Supreme Court stayed a high court order on the examination in response to a special leave petition filed by the Commission.

A senior UPPSC officer said barring general studies, the first session of the examination would be held 9:30 am to 12:30 pm while the second shift will be from 2 pm to 5 pm.

“General studies (paper-I) will be held from 9.30 am to 11.30 pm and general studies (paper-II) will be conducted from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm on June 18,” said UPPSC secretary Jagdish.

“General Hindi examination would be held in the first session followed by essay paper in the second session. After compulsory subjects, the candidates will get a gap on June 20. Examination of other subjects will be held from June 21 onwards,” he said.

The UPPSC secretary said as Indian Economic Service, Indian Statistical Service-2018 and other examinations were scheduled for June 29, 30 and July 1, UPPSC did not fix any paper on these dates. He, however, said minor changes in examination dates were still possible.

UPPSC had advertised for PCS-2017 examination on February 22 last year which had to be conducted for filling up 251 vacancies, which were subsequently increased to 677. A total of 4,55,297 candidates had registered for the examination.

The Commission conducted PCS-2017 (preliminary) examination in September 24, 2017 in which 2,46,654 candidates had appeared. The result of preliminary examination was announced on January 19, 2018 in which a total of 14,032 candidates were declared successful and eligible for the mains.

Earlier, the UPPSC had postponed PCS (mains)-2017 examinations twice.

The examination was scheduled for March 17 but was called off after a CBI inquiry into past recruitments made by the commission began.

The examination was rescheduled for May 17 but the Allahabad high court, while hearing a petition on March 30, directed UPPSC to revaluate the answer sheets of UP PCS (Pre) examination-2017 after deleting one of the questions and changing the answers of two others.

The court had said the candidates qualifying for the preliminary examination after revaluation would be entitled to appear for the mains and any candidate who was earlier eligible but declared ineligible after revaluation would not be allowed to participate in the selection process.

The Commission had then moved Supreme Court against the order and secured a stay.
