VANPORT TWP. — The multiyear Vanport Bridge improvement project is nearing completion, but drivers will again be faced with single-lane restrictions on the bridge for the next three weeks.

PennDOT announced Friday that around-the-clock single-lane restrictions will be implemented in both directions on the bridge starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The restrictions will be in place until 6 a.m. on June 19.

The agency said the restrictions are necessary so crews can complete the painting of the bridge, as well as conduct line painting on the roadway. Crews will also remove the bridge containment system that’s been in use during renovations.

PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said Friday that these should be the final traffic restrictions implemented on the bridge.

“We anticipate this will complete the project,” he said.

Renovations and other work on the bridge began in February 2016.
