Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment Ranjan Ramanayaka has shared his thoughts on the upcoming election of office bearers at Sri Lankan Cricket.
He said: “We have dropped from first to 9th in the cricket rankings. Thilanga Sumathipala is a very well known bookmaker. He is the owner of a media organisation and he also imports sports equipment.”
The Minister also revealed the company name as ‘U.W. Sumathipala and Sons’ and added that if Thilanga Sumathipala is running the business with his family, then he is “either directly or indirectly involved”.
Min. Ramanayaka also stated that the SLC election which is to be held on the 31st is “illegal” as those running for office have been accused of corruption and paid fines nationally and internationally.
“English Court, from the 23rd of January 1997. Thilanga Sumathipala has been ordered to pay a fine of 29,000 pounds. Once again he has been ordered to pay a fine of 35,640 pounds. I will submit this document. He has pleaded guilty before an English court and has paid a fine.” – Ranjan Ramanayaka, Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment.
