Slum dwellers hold demo before BeMC

Hundreds of slum dwellers under the banner of Lok Shakti Abhiyan carrying lanterns held a demonstration in front of the  Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) to press for fulfilment of their four demands.

The demands include early distribution of land records and houses to slum dwellers, inclusion of slum dwellers as beneficiaries in the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY), payment of compensation to the beneficiaries under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) and taking strict action against the people who have created irregularities in the PMAY scheme.

Members alleged the BeMC has not provided any house or land records to any of the slum dwellers in the city even as the State Government has promised the same to urban poor.

Among others, abhiyan president Madhusudan Sethi, Supriya Kumari Das, Kishore Patro and Srikant Sethi were present.
