MYSURU: On the eve of his 12th wedding anniversary, a jobless techie brutally killed his wife and frightened daughter by slitting their neck region at their residence in
Basavanahalli on the outskirts of Mysuru on Wednesday.
After spending the night at home he left home early on Thursday and returned late in the evening with a pesticide bottle. Police said he then cut his neck and wrist before calling up his father for help. He is survived and hospitalized.
Savitha (39) and
Sinchana (10) were lying in a pool of blood in separate rooms on the first floor of their residence while Prajwal (43), their assailant, was on the ground floor with his throat and wrist slit, bleeding mildly.
Police said quoting doctors that Prajwal’s condition is out of danger but is under observation at ICU in Apollo Hospital.
Prajwal has told police that a petty family quarrel picked up by his wife made him wicked and later he killed her by slitting her neck. He then went to his in-law’s house in KHB colony where Sinchana was and brought her home and killed her. He killed the girl by holding her head and mouth tightly on the ground floor and then shifted her body to a room upstairs. It was evening when he killed her.
The next day Prajwal left home in his two-wheeler and said to have purchased a bottle of pesticide from a shop near Jagan Mohana Palace.
Prajwal, out of job for the last one year, had summoned Savitha’s brother-in-law, (husband of her sister) for a party around 5pm but the latter didn’t turn up citing work at his clinic as a reason. Prajwal again dialed his co-brother around 9pm but didn’t get the response. The doctor has told police that he didn’t receive the call as he was retiring after having dinner.
While returning home Prajwal had bought ghee rice with ‘nati koli saru’(chicken sambar) from a local restaurant nearby. He consumed two-quarters of liquor and puffed two packs of the cigarette before using the same kitchen knife to slightly cut his neck region.
Prajwal had first tried to consume toxic liquid after having half of the food but because of its pungent smell of the pesticide he puked, a police officer disclosed.
Prajwal’s father
Ramachandra, a resident of Nanjangud came to his son’s rescue around 1am on Friday. Prajwal had called his father over phone on the night saying he had taken drastic steps and sought help before snapping the call.
Ramachandra told reporters that he was shocked and at this moment can’t say anything. He came here at 1am and shifted his son to Apollo hospital before alerting cops. Cops reached the scene around 2.30am.
Savitha’s mother
Susheelamma too was in a state of shock over the incident. Her daughter wasn’t disclosing anything about her family affairs to her and had stopped coming to meet her after her father’s death.
Reason for Prajwal’s action is yet to be ascertained though sources suspect he was suspecting his wife of infidelity. He has told police that Savitha was after money.
Family sources say the couple who worked in Bengaluru moved to Mysuru a year ago. They bought a house for Rs 90 lakh and stayed here since then. Their daughter studied in class IV at a private school in Mysuru. Both the couple was jobless and was frequently quarreling. Ramachandra was helping them financially.
