In a bizarre incident, a youth left his wife just minutes after their wedding in Nayagarh district on Wednesday. Manas Kumar Behera (22), a JCB driver, allegedly fled leaving his wife in an auto rickshaw.

A case has been registered with the Odagaon police following written complaint by the victim. The incident was reported from Gateri panchayat under Nuagaon block in the district.

According to reports, Manas was in love with the young woman of Surukabari village in Gateri panchayat, where he was working as a JCB driver in a road construction project. He allegedly had physical relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage. When he did not agree to marry the woman, locals informed his father and forced him for marriage. Their wedding was conducted in a temple in the presence of locals.

Manas convinced his wife to live together in a rented house. While travelling by an auto rickshaw to his home, Manas stopped the vehicle on the road at Mahipur and left on a plea for looking for a house on rent. The woman waited for him in the auto for hours, but he did not return.

The auto driver informed about it to locals, who reached the spot and took the woman with them to her home. Initially, the victim approached the Nuagaon police for registering her complaint.

As the incident had occurred under the Odagaon police limits, the woman along with villagers lodged the complaint at the Odagaon police station. A case about the incident has been registered and handed over to SDPO Narayan Chandra Barik for investigation.
