15 people injured, 3 critically, after explosion at Mississauga restaurant
Officials say 15 have been injured, three critically, after an explosion at a restaurant in Mississauga.
Police and paramedics said they were called to the Bombay Bhel restaurant, which is located in a plaza north of Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue, at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Const. Iryna Yashnyk told reporters early Friday that the call was for an explosion.
“So far we have the plaza sealed off and we’re investigating,” Yashnyk said.
A Peel Paramedics spokesperson told Global News three patients were taken to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition.
Multiple patients were set to be transported to local hospitals with minor, “trauma” injuries. Some of the injuries were superficial, paramedics said.
A man, who didn’t want to be identified, told Global News he was inside the restaurant when he heard “a big blast.”
“A big one … I was in the bathroom with my kid, so I came out and everybody’s hidden there,” he said, adding he saw broken glass and blood.
Officials said they couldn’t comment on the cause of the explosion since the investigation is ongoing.
More to come.
