A 10-year-old girl is dead after a single vehicle rollover accident near Vernon.
Around 7:20 a.m. Thursday, three children were travelling with their mother toward Vernon on Farm-to-Market Road 925.
According to a statement issued by Vernon ISD on social media, the mother was a staff member in the school district.
The girl who died attended Shive Elementary in Vernon, and the father worked for the district as an employee.
The woman's SUV left the roadway for an unknown reason, entered the right side barrow ditch and rolled several times, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.
The road conditions were reportedly dry and visibility was clear at the time, according to the news release.
The woman was airlifted to United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls. Her son was airlifted to Cook's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. Both reportedly had serious injuries.
The woman's oldest daughter was treated and released at the scene.
"Please know that we have counselor's and members of the Region 9 Crisis Team available on each campus," Jeff Byrd, Vernon ISD superintendent, wrote in the district's statement. "Please let your child know that we will have these counselors available on site tomorrow."
The district also provided information on its website to assist parents in talking with their children about these situations.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family as they deal with this tragedy," Byrd wrote.
The identities of the girl or her family members were not given in the DPS news release.
The investigation is ongoing into the crash, the DPS news release stated.
