Governor appeals for keeping Damodar clean

Governor Droupadi Murmu appealed to people to discharge their duties towards the mother-nature and take part actively in the conservation of the holy Damodar river. Addressing a gathering at Chulhapani, the origin of Damodar River, on the occasion of Damodar Mahotrav in Lohardaga, she also suggested to observe Ganga Dashahra as conservation of water origins during which programmes should be organized beside the river banks and organize ‘aarti’ of the rivers.

The Governor said that Damodar River is a lifeline of development of the State and is considered holy and Damodar Mahotsav is being organized at Chulhapani village where Damodar Bachao Movement was started.

“The natives of this place believe that God resides here at Chulhapani hence, the stretch from Chulhapani to Kekrahi Gadha village is known as Devnad,” said the Governor. Both sides of Damodar River are dominated by the industrial and economic activities and the basis of which is the holy water of the river, he added.

Later, the industrial group located on both sides of it started polluting the river and it was started being counted among the most polluted rivers.

“Tenughat Thermal and Chandrapura Thermal Power Plants along with SAIL Bokaro produce a lot of pollution due to which the river water has not been left for bathing and other human activities,” said Murmu. To deal with this problem Chairman of Damodar Bachao Andolan under the banner of Ugantar Bharti stated the movement by collecting the sensitive persons due to which a positive result is quite visible here, she added. The Governor further said that the polluting units have taken necessary steps to check flow of pollution into the Damodar River due to which it has started getting clean. As Damodar is also a name of God Vishnu and hence people are told to keep it clean due to which people are also getting motivated and have started keeping it clean, said the Governor. The occasion was also addressed by the Union Minister Sudarshan Bhagat, State Minister Saryu Roy, and the MLA Sukhdeo Bhagat. Many plans were also inaugurated on the occasion. And asset was distributed. On the occasion DC Binod Kumar presented memorandum and Latehar DC Rajeev Kumar Rajkumar presented bouquet to the governor. On the occasion the SP Rajkumar Lakra, Om Singh many others were present.
