Two policemen injured in grenade attacks in J&K's twin capitals

Two policemen were injured as militants launched grenade attacks on the security forces in the twin capitals of Jammu and Srinagar of the State on Thursday, despite the Centre's Ramzan ceasefire in place for the past nine days.

"A grenade was reportedly lobbed at a police party at Jammu Bus Stand by unknown miscreants Two cops sustained minor injuries and were hospitalised in Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu," said additional deputy commissioner, Jammu, Arun Manhas.

A police official said hat preliminary investigations confirmed it was a grenade attack and the policemen sustained splinter injuries.

The blast triggered panic in Jammu city and security forces were put on alert.

Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, witnessed second such attack since February 10 when militants stormed an Army installation in the city outskirts, which left 11 people, including four attackers, dead.

Earlier in the evening, militants lobbed a grenade towards a paramilitary CRPF camp at Safakadal area of Srinagar, the summer capital of the State.

"Militants hurled the grenade on CRPF's 161 Battalion at Braripora, Safakdal. The device missed the target and exploded outside the sentry post," said the police.

Four vehicles, including a school bus, were damaged due to the impact of the blast.
