Updated
Two people have been killed and several people have been taken to hospital after a peak hour crash just north of Canberra.
The two people killed were passengers in the same car, which collided head-on with another on the Barton Highway near Wallaroo shortly before 8:00am.
Both died at the scene, and others involved in the crash have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A third car was hit in the crash, however its occupants were unharmed.
Police said significant traffic delays were expected, and the highway was closed in both directions following the crash.
The drivers of both cars will be subject to mandatory testing.
The Barton Highway is notorious as one of the most dangerous roads in Australia.
