SANDWICH – A Leland man trafficking heroin, cocaine and klonopin pills is in LaSalle County jail after being arrested in DeKalb County, according to local sheriff's deputies.

Jeffery Heth, 35, of the 2300 block of North 45th Road, was a passenger during a traffic stop about 11 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Chicago and East Sandwich roads when sheriff officials saw he had a bag containing a controlled substance on his seat, according to a news release.

Sandwich police officers assisted, and their K9 unit alerted on the car, according to the release. DeKalb County Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said several bags of suspected heroin, a couple of bags of suspect cocaine, syringes, pipes and three pills of clonazepam were found in the vehicle.

Heth was wanted on a $500,000 warrant out of LaSalle County and taken to the jail early Friday.

Sullivan said Heth does not yet face charges in DeKalb County. He said a deputy will go before a judge and try to get a warrant for Heth for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and three counts unlawful possession of a controlled Substance.

“We’ll be cooperating with the state’s attorney’s office on those charges,” Sullivan said.
