Dinner in ten minutes? Founder of OPOS technique doles out tips

The founder of the OPOS technique hosts his first workshop in Chennai for newbie cooks

“Send your sons and daughters to my workshop, ‘Chef in a day’, and I promise you that they will cook up a three-course meal for the family that same evening,” says B Ramki, whose One Pot One Shot (OPOS) cooking technique is gaining popularity world wide. “The workshop is for those who have never tried their hands at cooking. I will be teaching participants OPOS cooking techniques using equipments meant for the same.”

Ramki has conducted such workshops at Singapore, Dubai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai; this is his first one in Chennai. He says his previous workshops were attended by people of all ages — from 10-year-olds to 85-year-olds. “My idea is to teach OPOS, a technique that helps one cook good food with minimal effort. It is also the best way to cook vegetables, meat and starch. The participants will see and understand why OPOS pressure baking is nutritious, as ingredients are cooked to perfection in their own juices, using less oil,” he says.

Ramki had, to begin with, standardise all of his OPOS recipes over several years. The next step was to standardise the equipment, by way of developing his Magic Pot and then identifying the induction stove timing. “If a recipe turns out perfectly for me, it will be exactly the same for anyone who may try it. At our sessions, we will not concentrate on any particular cuisine or recipe, but purely technique. We will begin from the basics, and cover 25 lessons. From boiling water, to pressure baking vegetables, we will move on to gravies and so on.”

Participants can try various OPOS recipes in about 20 different counters to be set up at the venue where demonstrations will take place. “All of these tables will be equipped with the necessary ingredients and equipment, using which participants can try any dish they wish to prepare with expert guidance. At the end of the event, a buffet will be served comprising what the participants themselves cooked.”

The fee for the workshop is ₹1,500 per person. Register online at www.oposchefinaday.com
