Jaipur police are investigating two cases in which three people were beaten up at public places in separate incidents. Both the incidents were captured on CCTV cameras.

In a case registered with the Vishwakarma police, Ajay Pal Singh (22) and Suresh Gujjar (27) alleged that they were beaten up by six unknown people at the Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) on Wednesday. “The two were beaten with wooden sticks and iron bars in front of Jodla Power House. The victims did not know the assailants,” said Jagdish Prashad, a sub-inspector and investigating officer in the case.

The complainants work as recovery agents for a financial company, Prashad said. The police are trying to identify the assailants, he added.

In another incident, Giriraj Sharma, 24, was allegedly beaten up by more than 10 people at Vatika Road in the city on Tuesday. A complaint was lodged by his uncle Shankar Lal Sharma at the Sanganer Sadar police station. The investigating officer in the case, sub-inspector Heera Lal said, “Giriraj was standing at Vatika Road with his uncle and brother around 9.30pm when 10-12 men came in two cars and attacked him. They beat him up with wooden sticks, while his relatives tried to intervene.”

Police said Giriraj knew five of the assailants and has mentioned their names in the FIR. “The five attackers and Giriraj belong to the same community,” Lal added.

The state’s human rights commission has also taken cognisance of the two incidents. The commission has asked the Jaipur police commissioner to investigate the cases and submit factual reports by June 26.

Calling the two incidents “deplorable”, former CM and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Whether BJP would make #Jaipur a #SmartCity or not, the party is certainly on a path to make it a crime city.”
