The rural police cracked down on illegal sand transportation on the Ghodbunder Road in the district, an official said today.
Following complaints, the police carried out checks and intercepted the sand-laden trucks near a hotel on the Ghodbunder Road yesterday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Thane rural) Atul Kulkarni said.
During verification, the police found that the truck drivers did not not posses valid permits for carrying the sand.
The police confiscated 11 trucks along with the sand and booked their drivers and owners under IPC sections pertaining to theft and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, the official said.
