NLCIL celebrates Gratitude Day, honours stalwarts

Former functional directors recalled various important events that happened during their tenure

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) celebrated its 62nd Raising Day as Gratitude Day on Tuesday by honouring its past stalwarts and commemorating the historic occasion on May 20, 1957, when NLC’s mining operations were commenced by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL, initiated the celebration by hoisting the company’s flag in the presence of A.R Ansari, former CMD of the Corporation, former and serving functional directors at the lawns of Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli.

To mark the occasion, NLCIL honoured Mr. Ansari, who was also the chief guest, and former directors K.Sekar, K.S.Anandan, M.S.Ravindranath, R.N Singh, V.Sethuraman, J.Mahiselvan, S. Rajagopal, P.R.Balasubramanian, R. Narasimhan, P.Babu Rao, J.L. Mehtha and R .Kandasamy, as a way of acknowledging their relentless services for the growth of the organisation.

The eight oldest retired employees who served the organisation in early stages of inception were also presented mementos.

All former functional directors extended their felicitations by recalling various important events that happened during their tenure.

Besides, Raju, a contract worker whose smile features in the official NLCIL anthem, was honoured by the CMD with a cash award of ₹10,000.

Dr. Acharya, while expressing his gratitude to the earlier stalwarts and employees of the company, noted that it was because of their relentless efforts and contributions that the company had achieved and sustained excellence through challenges.

Dr. Acharya stated that as an organisation, the NLCIL was ever striving for transformational change with multi-fold expansion projects, progressive policy changes and effective implementation in tune with the changing market scenario to become a strong player in the power sector of the nation. He indicated that in future NLCIL may install power charging stations along highways considering the electric mobility needs of the country.

Mr. Ansari recalled the defining points of his tenure and urged employees to take ownership of the company and strive for newer heights “as your next generation will remember you as stalwarts and achievers”.

The Corporate Contract Management System (CCMS) Web Portal was also launched as part of the Digital India Programme.

Arch inaugurated

Earlier, Dr. Acharya inaugurated the newly-constructed decorative entrance arch for Corporate office at Block-1 and an LPG-fired ‘Shanthivanam Crematorium’ at Block-5 to benefit bereaved staff as well as people of Neyveli and the peripheral villages. The unit cost about ₹1.50 crore.

Senior officials, employees, representatives of trade unions and welfare associations attended the celebrations. Earlier, in the morning the unit heads of mines, thermal power stations and administrative offices hoisted the NLCIL flag at their respective units.
