Schenectady police are investigating after officers on patrol found a man lying in the middle of State Street with multiple stab wounds.

Officers found the 27-year-old man around 1 a.m. near State and Hawk streets. He was treated at the scene and transported to Ellis Hospital, police said.

He was later taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for emergency surgery. He is in stable condition.
