Weather office says, the entire North and Central India is in the grip of a severe heat wave and there will be no respite from soaring mercury till Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department has sounded a red-coded alert for Haryana, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh until May 27. Temperatures more than 40 degree Celsius are recorded in afternoon in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana.
Heat wave conditions also prevailed over many parts of Gujarat region, some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra & Kutch, North Interior Karnataka, Marathwada and Chhattisgarh. Maximum Temperatures recorded today have risen by 3 to 5 degree Celsius in many parts of Telangana. The heat wave is particularly high in the Uttar Pradesh's central region and Bundelkhand. Mahoba was the highest with 47.5 degrees Celsius followed by Jalaun with 47 degrees. Heavy rain at isolated places is also forecast in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
