ROTTERDAM — A public information meeting for the Empire State Trail plan's effect on Rotterdam will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Rotterdam Junction Volunteer Fire Co. station, 1215 Main Street.
According to a Department of Transportation letter on the town website, the trail, when completed by the end of 2020, will create a 750-mile bike and walking path from New York City to Canada and Albany to Buffalo.
The trail will follow the existing Erie Canaway trail in Rotterdam, but that is incomplete, forcing users to use roads.
Under the proposal, trails would be connected to create a continuous off-road system.
The DOT said it is working with the Rotterdam, Schenectady County and the railroads to make the connections work in Pattersonville and Rotterdam Junction.
For information on the trail, see www.ny.gov/programs/empire-state-trail or Rotterdam's website, www.rotterdamny.org under "notices."
