Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will be installing 241 pumps where the Metro works are being carried. The pumps will help to avoid flooding and the water can also be stored. The decision was taken in a meeting conducted between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority and MMRC on Wednesday.
In addition to this, the BMC has also set up 295 pumps this year, which they claim, is now complete with the vision of more effective drainage of rain water. In totality, as many as 536 pumps will be installed by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and MMRC in the monsoon this year. In cases where difficulties arise, related senior officers of all the three authorities will conduct a joint survey and make necessary co-ordination.

For the smoother integration, the appointment of co-ordinate officers (Nodal Officer) of both organizations, MMRDA and MMRC, will be done. For the betterment of the problems in reconciliation during monsoon, a 24×7 helpline number will also be started in the BMC’s emergency control room. The MMRDA has given an assurance that the work is in final stage and it will be completed by May 31.
MMRDA and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) were given instructions during the meeting today to ensure that there is no water logging around the pillars on Western Express Highway and the Dahisar to Andheri link roads. According to municipal officials from the monsoon this year, concerned officials from MMRDA and MMRC will also go on spot locations and take necessary action. There will also be regular contact at senior level as need arises.
