CONCORD - A Campbell County man was hospitalized after his car ran off a rural Concord road and overturned in a field Thursday.
Varl Lockler, 32, was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with a head and arm injury, according to Virginia State Police Trooper Thomas Wertz. The crash occurred at about 10:25 a.m. on Crews Shop Road, about a half mile north of Village Highway.
Wertz said Lockler was driving northbound in a 2001 Honda Civic when the car’s defective rear driver’s-side tire caused him to lose control. The vehicle careened off the left side of the road and overturned twice before coming to a rest in a field.
Lockler managed to crawl out of the overturned vehicle on his own, Wertz said.
No one else was injured in the wreck.
Lockler was charged with driving with a defective tire, Wertz said.
Campbell County Public Safety and the Concord Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
