IMFL smuggled through waterway seized in Kawant

Vadodara: Liquor smugglers seem to have found a new way of push liquor into the state. Chhota Udepur, being a border district, is an easy access point to smuggle liquor through road. But in the wee hours of Thursday, cops uncovered a racket of smuggling liquor from Maharashtra through Narmada River at Kawant taluka.
In a joint operation, the rapid response (RR) cell of Vadodara range police and Kawant taluka seized a boat in which a bootlegger identified as Madhavsinh alias Malsinh Bhil was smuggling liquor stock worth Rs 1 lakh at Turkheda village in Kawant taluka of Chhota Udepur. Cops said that they had received information about Bhil smuggling liquor through boat.

On the basis of tip-off, they kept a watch on the banks of Narmada River in the wee hours of Thursday. When Bhil reached the shore, he noticed the cops and fled away leaving the liquor stock behind. Police found several cans of beer and other liquor bottles packed in a carton from the boat.

A police official said that they could not know since when was Bhil was smuggling liquor through waterway since he fled away.
