Tender fixing alleged in U’kote block

| | UMARKOTE | in Bhubaneswar

Some local contractors have brought an allegation that irregularities were committed during tender processes of different works in Umarkote block. According to a report, tenders were floated for 38 developmental works involving more than Rs 4 crore. A group of contractors on Tuesday alleged before the BDO that tender was fixed in connivance with some block officials. “While 276 tender papers were sold, only 30 contractors participated in the tender for 38 works. From this, a foul play is suspected to get contract awarded in favour of some specific contractors,” alleged Parsuram Patro, a Class B contractor. He further alleged that  authorities did not follow  e-tender process and, thus, violated guidelines. “This deviation creates a doubt about the veracity of the tender calls and the involvement of some officials cannot be ruled out,” Patro added. However, the BDO said the allegations were false and due formalities were maintained for a transparent tender bidding process.

The contractors also sent a copy of their allegation to the Nabarangpur district Collector for necessary action.
