Dahlhaus wants to be a Bulldog for life
Out-of-contract Western Bulldogs midfielder/forward Luke Dahlhaus insists he wants to finish his career at Whitten Oval.
Having been with the Bulldogs for eight years, Dahlhaus becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, meaning he can join any club he wishes without the Bulldogs getting in the way.
The premiership star corroborated coach Luke Beveridge’s summation from earlier in the week that Dahlhaus’ management and the club weren’t on the same page at the moment with regards to details surrounding the 25-year-old’s new deal.
But both Beveridge and Dahlhaus were hopeful of a resolution, with the latter ideally seeking a long-term deal with the Dogs.
“There’s a couple of things that my manager and the club have to sort out,” Dahlhaus told SEN on Thursday.
“My heart’s obviously with the Bulldogs, I love the club, they gave me that chance as a rookie back in 2010 so obviously I’d love to finish my career at the club but there’s just a couple of things that need to be sorted out.
“I would love to be an AFL player until I’m about around 30, so that would be nice.”
Fox Sports reported earlier in the year that Dahlhaus was put up for trade at the end of last season. The report infuriated Beveridge who strongly denied it.
Dahlhaus admitted the report was disappointing, but after seeking clarification with Beveridge, he was satisfied that there was no truth to it.
“My manager was the one who would have got first news of that and he said to me that it was not in one way true,” Dahlhaus said.
“I sat down with ‘Bevo’ and had a good chat and it was false and he was obviously pretty angry about it as you might have saw in that press conference.
“It’s obviously a little bit disappointing to hear that, but I trust the coach and obviously my manager as well so I obviously trust their opinions.”
