If you thought you had your health game on, think again. The ever so mundane milk was revolutionised not too long ago by vegans who gorged onto almond or soy milk. However, nature has launched its bizarre product in the form of cockroach milk. That’s right, cockroach producing milk. Read on to find out more about this super-food and if at all it will be the new fad of 2018.
Research suggests that milk crystals found in the Pacific Beetle are used as food for baby cockroaches have a very rich source of protein, and that it could be a favourable element in the form of food for humans, as reported by International Union of Crystallography.
Benefits of cockroach milk
It has four times the amount of protein than cow’s milk and three times that of Buffalo’s milk.
It also has crucial amino-acids that promote growth in the cells, providing lipids which are important for a healthy body and essential sugars that give energy to our bodies.
Availability of cockroach milk
It is not easily available at the supermarket like any other milk. According to reports, it can be consumed in the form of a pill and approximately 100 cockroaches will be used to make one pill!
Beauty with cockroach milk
According to the leading beauty brand Marie Claire, cockroach milk may not become the part of one’s beauty regimen just yet as the hormones present may make acne worse in certain individuals.
“The high levels of sugar may make it a poor choice in terms of skin health and beauty, as we know that high-sugar diets actually accelerate skin aging. However, protein and fat are vital components of good hair and nails, and this particular liquid may make getting optimal levels of both things much easier,” Rachel Nazarian from Schweiger Dermatology Group told Marie Claire.
The exact concentration of nutrients in this ‘healthy’ milk are unknown, hence Kolkata-based general physician Dr Shayan Dasgupta won’t call it a ‘wonder drink’.
Instead if you are looking to try new versions, Dr Dasgupta says, “If it is low calories you’re after, almond milk is your match, but if you are after the milk that’s nutritionally rich, cow’s milk is still the best choice”, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Only time will tell if the fad will catch on!
