Bhayandar: There seems to be no end to the woes of BJP legislator- Narendra Mehta, whose close kin and associates are facing charges of destructing to mangrove belts and reclaiming wetlands to construct an ultra-luxurious club in the Kanakia area of Mira Road.

After Mira Road registered a FIR under the relevant sections of the Environment Protection Act against eight people including the legislator’s younger brother Vinod Mehta (who also happens to be the husband of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation Mayor Dimple Mehta), the office of the Konkan Divisional Commissioner has directed the District Collector, Thane to conduct a detailed probe and submit its report in this context to the violation.

The action followed by state government directives, in response to a complaint filed on the CM’s web portal by RTI activist Krishna Gupta, in context to brazen elimination of green cover by the legislator and his kin by violating coastal regulations and environment norms.

Interestingly, Gupta has sought charges to be framed under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, (MCOCA) against the accused for repeatedly causing irreversible damage to the nature to pamper the rich.Despite a series of cases against his kin, the legislator who has been terming the allegations as baseless had barged into the local police station last week.
