The village hopes to find a garbage service provider that residents can chose to use or not.
Monday meeting
KEY ACTION Village Council discussed a pending garbage collection program.
DISCUSSION Village officials are seeking bids for garbage service for residents. The bids are due at the end of the month.
The village does not have a contract with a garbage company to pick up residential trash. Residents get their own trash service, Mayor Bob Benson explained. He believes five or more companies enter the village each week for trash collection.
At Monday's meeting, Julie Monroy, an account manager for Kimble Recycling & Disposal, said in order to provide a fair bid, trash companies need to know how many potential customers could be served. Officials said there are about 800 households in the village.
Benson said council hopes to award the contract in July with service beginning in the fall. If the village contracts with a trash provider, the mayor said, residents will have the option to opt out and continue to use a provider they choose.
Garbage service for the village has been discussed numerous times, Benson said, as officials have been concerned with the number of trash trucks coming in and out of the village and traveling on village roads and alleys.
By offering a contracted trash company, village residents might see a savings on their garbage costs, which would help offset a $10 per month increase in their water bills. The increase to help fund the loan repayment for the new water tower and improvements at the water treatment facility, will be on the June bill.
