Farmers Markets and wine pairings: This week's food and drink events

These five events will tempt taste buds across Eastern Iowa this week:

Communal Kitchen Dinner

Step back in time and into Amana culture at this traditional dining experience in Amana’s Communal Kitchen Museum, featuring traditional recipes and a short historical program. The menu includes Swabian meat patties, crumbed mash potatoes, creamy green beans, cottage cheese with chives, cucumber salad, bread and butter and a dessert. Reservations required.

May wine Tasting (Part II)

Sample ten highly rated wines from around the world and much on a pizza buffet at this monthly wine tasting. Cost is $20, but $10 will be refunded with purchase of three or more bottles being sampled. Advance registration requested.

Cultivate Hope Market

Buy fresh, local produce directly from Matthew 25’s Cultivate Hope Urban Farm and help support Matthew 25’s mission of uplifting their neighborhood on the southwest side. The market will happen each Tuesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. until November, with the kickoff Tuesday. Produce will be sold at half price of income-qualified individuals, and EBT/SNAP will be accepted. The season’s first market will feature crafts and activities for kids coordinated by Iowa BIG, plus food from One More Bite food truck.

Scarpetta Wine Dinner

Join Cobble Hill and First Avenue Wine House as they welcome Scarpetta Wines Midwest representative Jason Carlen to Cedar Rapids with a four-course family-style meal. The chefs are concocting a menu of Italia-inspired dishes to pair with the Italian-made wines. Ticket price includes tax and tip.

Lion Bridge Farmers Market

Twice a year, Lion Bridge Brewing Company hosts a farmers market in their parking lot. When else can you sip a beer while perusing fresh produce and locally-made goods? Iowa City-based musicians Awful Purdies will keep shoppers entertained.
