CM takes stock of the situation

A high-level meeting called by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Thursday to review the activities taken by the government to control and limit the Nipah virus outbreak in Kozhikode directed the health authorities to continue the vigil and intensify the disease surveillance system.

A panel headed by the Chief Secretary has been asked to review and monitor the situation.

The antiviral drug Ribavirin, imported by the government, is being distributed now in all localities where the presence of the virus is suspected. A meeting of the representatives of all political parties will be held at the Kozhikode Collectorate at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Health Minister K.K. Shylaja, Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan and Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran will participate.

A meeting of heads of local bodies in Kozhikode will also be held at 4 p.m.
