PUNE: Three persons hijacked a car of a cab aggregator brandishing a sharp weapon in front of its driver in the early hours of Wednesday in Pimpri.
An officer of the Pimpri police told TOI that the cab driver,
Saurabh Deshmukh (23), had picked up a few women from
Bhumkar Chowk at Wakad late on Tuesday night. “He dropped them near
Swapnanagari Colony in Pimpri around 12.45am on Wednesday,” the officer said.
When
Deshmukh turned the cab, two men on a motorcycle stopped him. “Assuming they needed a cab, Deshmukh started talking to them,” the officer said.
Another person surfaced and threatened Deshmukh with the sharp weapon. “The other two forcibly brought Deshmukh out of the car and beat him up,” the officer said, adding that the accomplice of the duo took charge of the wheel and fled.
Deshmukh’s cellphone was in the cab. He took help of a passer-by and contacted the police control room. “Our team rushed to the spot and brought Deshmukh to the police station,” the officer said.
The cab driver, Deshmukh, of Hadapsar has lodged a complaint with the Pimpri police. The officer said the police were checking the CCTV footage in the area in a bid to trace the vehicle.
