A 30-year-old woman and 34-year-old man were shot and killed in New Castle County overnight in an apparent double homicide.

Police have identified the two victims as Isabel Cooper and Thessalonias Berry.

County police found two bodies in a car on Kiamensi Road between Newport and Stanton roads in Stanton when responding a possible vehicle accident around 2:30 a.m.

Both victims had apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

The two were pronounced dead by New Castle County Paramedics, according to Master Cpl. Michel Eckerd, a police spokesman.

"This is currently an ongoing and active investigation," he said late Thursday morning. "No suspect information is available at this time."

Traffic has been shut down around the police scene, which is near Powell Ford Park.

It was difficult for residents and business owners in the area to get where they needed to go with Kiamensi Road closed most of the morning.

Delaware Department of Transportation employees were on both sides of the Kiamensi Road crime scene. They set up cones and stationed employees to limit foot and vehicle traffic in the area where police were investigating.

Some hoping to get through the blockade left their vehicles parked and walked as close to the scene as they could looking for answers, but most were turned away and told the road would be shut to traffic for a long time.

Though most walked away without learning why they couldn't get through, some people with businesses or homes nearby said they learned it was a homicide investigation.

This is a developing story. Return here for more information as it becomes available.
