Police called to an Ambridge apartment Monday found a crying 12-month-old baby left alone for at least 45 minutes with a soiled diaper.

AMBRIDGE — Police called to an apartment Monday found a crying 12-month-old baby left alone for at least 45 minutes with a soiled diaper.

According to an Ambridge police report, Rachelle L. Gruber, 34, and Chad Price, 33, were charged with leaving the child alone in the unlocked apartment.

Police said officers were called at about 2:15 p.m. Monday to 49 Economy Village for a report of a child left alone. Officers said they could hear the child “crying and screaming” inside the apartment, and no one came to the door when they knocked, police said.

According to the report, the front door was unlocked, and officers entered the apartment.

Police said the child was “soaking wet from a wet and messy diaper.” Officers changed his diaper and dressed him in clean clothes.

A Children and Youth Services caseworker, who also received a report of the child being left alone, was sent to the home, according to the report.

Police said Gruber returned home at 2:56 p.m. The report did not specify where she was or why she left the child alone.

She was arrested at the apartment and charged.

Price is not in yet police custody, though charges were also filed against him Monday, records show.

Gruber and Price are charged by Ambridge police with a felony count of endangering the welfare of a child and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.

According to court records, Gruber was taken to the Beaver County Jail after failing to post a $100,000 bond.

Police did not specify Gruber and Price’s relation to the child.
