Pre-wedding drama had royals wondering 'what would happen next', says Camilla
Camilla says the royal family was thankful everything went right on the big day.
The Duchess of Sussex's new in-laws were waiting to see "what would happen next" as the bride's family drama unfolded days before the royal wedding, according to Prince Harry's stepmother.
The groom's relatives scrambled to make last minute changes as Meghan's dad, Thomas Markle, pulled out of plans to walk his daughter down the aisle at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in England on Saturday due to health issues.
Meghan instead asked Harry's dad, Prince Charles, to escort her to the altar, and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, admits they were all thankful the actual ceremony went off without a hitch after a week of drama.
"It was such a lovely day, just everything went right," Camilla told London's 5 News on Wednesday.
Camilla spoke about the wedding during a visit to mark the 21st anniversary of 5 News.

Hinting at the controversies leading up to the big day, she added, "We all wondered whatever would happen next and then everything went right.
"It's nice to have something that is uplifting rather than depressing," Camilla continued. "Everything was just perfect, including the weather, which couldn't have been better. It was a beautiful day. The only thing is that we are all losing our voices now!"
Thomas Markle first cancelled his trip to the UK on May 14 after it was revealed he had staged a series of paparazzi photos and sold them to the press, before changing his mind and declaring he still wanted to attend the royal wedding.
In the end, it was Prince Charles who walked the bride down the aisle.
However, he had to scrap the idea altogether after learning he needed surgery following a heart attack in early May.
The bride's father wasn't the only one making headlines in the weeks before the high-profile event, as Meghan's half-siblings publicly criticised her in interviews in the UK and US, with her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr writing a scathing open letter in which he urged 33-year-old Harry not to marry the former actress.
Camilla's thoughts on the royal wedding drama emerge a day after Harry and Meghan made their first official appearance as husband and wife at a garden party at Buckingham Palace in honour of Charles' upcoming 70th birthday.
