Real Madrid star Karim Benzema thought he would seal Arsenal transfer this summer - report
REAL MADRID star Karim Benzema reportedly thought Arsenal would bid for him this summer.
Real Madrid striker Benzema has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, with interest from the north London giants dating back to his time at Lyon.
The France international could, however, finally leave the Bernabeu this summer having struggled for form.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are primed to overhaul their squad following their decision to name Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
But Spanish outlet Diario Gol say Benzema thought Arsenal would go in for him before Wenger’s exit.
It is said Benzema has always been keen to strut his stuff in the Premier League.

Manchester United were interested in securing his signature back in the summer of 2009, having lost Cristiano Ronaldo.
But Real, who took Ronaldo off them, then swooped to sign Benzema and present him to the world in a glitzy presentation from inside the Bernabeu.
Diario Gol say Benzema has now given up on joining Arsenal because of Emery.
However, he is unlikely to be short of offers from other suitors, with both PSG and Napoli being linked with moves.
PSG are expected to cut Edinson Cavani loose, despite the Uruguayan netting 40 goals last term.

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have been linked, though the La Liga giants appear frontrunners.
Napoli, meanwhile, may chance their arm.
The Serie A giants have recently appointed Carlo Ancelotti as manager, with the Italian succeeding Maurizio Sarri.
Ancelotti managed Benzema at Real but whether he tries to secure a reunion remains to be seen.
