Jurickson Profar had a bases-clearing double to put the Texas Rangers ahead to stay in a wild, series-clinching 12-10 win over the New York Yankees, who matched a major league record with four more homers Wednesday night.
Gleyber Torres became the youngest Yankee ever to homer in three consecutive games and Aaron Judge hit a 471-foot blast as New York became only the third team in major league history with 21 homers in a five-game stretch — 12 of those in Texas.
Torres, a 21-year-old second baseman playing in his 27th career game, and Judge both homered during a six-run fifth to put New York ahead 10-5. The Rangers then scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, and an inning later got Profar's three-run double to make it 11-10 after reliever David Robertson (3-2) had already given up a bases-loaded walk.
Didi Gregorius and Neil Walker also went deep for the Yankees, who have at least three homers in five consecutive games for the first time in team history. The only other teams with 21 homers in a five-game span were the 1999 Reds and the 1977 Red Sox, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Rangers rookie Ronald Guzman also homered in his third straight game, a three-run blast in the fifth off starter CC Sabathia after Nomar Mazara had a two-run shot earlier in the inning.
Marlins 2, Mets 1: J.T. Realmuto and Starlin Castro each hit an RBI single off closer Jeurys Familia in the ninth inning, and Miami rallied for a victory. Jacob deGrom dodged trouble throughout seven scoreless innings and Brandon Nimmo homered in the fifth for the Mets, who carried a slim lead into the ninth. But the Marlins broke through against Familia (2-2), who has four blown saves in 17 chances this season.
Red Sox 4, Rays 1: Xander Bogaerts sparked a three-run rally in the ninth, David Price pitched the bulk of a three-hitter and Boston beat Tampa Bay for its fourth straight win.
Brewers 9, D'backs 2: Travis Shaw hit a three-run homer and Jesus Aguilar had a go-ahead, two-run single during a seven-run fourth inning.
Tigers 4, Twins 1: Michael Fulmer won for the first time in four starts, Niko Goodrum ended an 0-for-14 skid with a home run and Detroit stopped a five-game losing streak.
Royals 5, Cardinals 2 (10): Drew Butera had a two-run single in the 10th to lead Kansas City past St. Louis.
Astros 4, Giants 1: Justin Verlander got some run support for the first time in nearly a month and Houston beat San Francisco. Verlander (6-2) struck out nine and walked one in six innings, allowing one run and three hits as his major league-leading ERA rose slightly to 1.08. He had given up just three runs over 29 innings during his previous four starts, but the Astros had scored just three runs in that span, getting shut out twice. George Springer hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the fifth.
Padres 3, Nationals 1: Christian Villanueva hit a two-run double for San Diego.
Phillies 4, Braves 0: Jake Arrieta struck out seven in 62/3 sharp innings and Carlos Santana's swinging-bunt broke a scoreless tie.
Angels 5, Blue Jays 4: Shohei Ohtani hit a tying two-run single in the ninth inning, Andrelton Simmons added another two-run hit and the Angels rallied to beat Toronto.
Pirates 5, Reds 4 (12): Josh Harrison's triple drove in Jordy Mercer with the go-ahead run.
Indians 1, Cubs 0: Adam Plutko carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Andrew Miller provided stellar relief.
White Sox 11, Orioles 1: Dylan Covey tossed seven innings for his first major league win and Yoan Moncada and Adam Engel each hit three-run homers.
