Cape Town - Disgraced Australian opener David Warner's wife, Candice, has apologised to All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams and his family after South African fans dragged up their 2007 toilet tryst to try and taunt her husband during Australia's tour of South Africa earlier this year, according to the Stuff.co.za and Daily Mail websites.

The Warners were central to several flashpoints during the now infamous Test series between the two nations.

David Warner was found to have instigated the plan to cheat in the third Test at Newlands in Cape Town.

Warner and skipper Steve Smith (both 12 months) and Cameron Bancroft (nine months) were all banned by Cricket Australia (CA) for their roles in the ball-tampering scandal, but Candice has since blamed herself for her husband's involvement.

South African fans were snapped wearing masks of Williams' face during the second Test in Port Elizabeth in an attempt to wind up Warner and Candice has reached out to the All Blacks star's family.

"I finally received a weak apology from Cricket South Africa (for the fan taunts). I realised they're the ones to feel ashamed, not me," she said in an interview with The Australian Women's Weekly when she also revealed she had a miscarriage shortly after the ball-tampering scandal.

"I'd like to extend that apology to Sonny Bill. He's a husband and father, so imagine how his wife would feel and his kids.

"It's been 11 years since that happened, it's time to put it to rest and get on with things that matter."

Williams married Alana Raffie in 2013 and they have two children, daughters Imaan and Aisha.

The Williams taunts surfaced during the first Test in Durban when South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock allegedly raised the 2007 tryst with Warner, which is then said to have sparked a stairwell confrontation between the pair. De Kock was fined 25 percent of his match fee and Warner 75% following the incident.

The series soured further when Cricket South Africa (CSA) were forced to apologised to the Australian team after Proteas officials Clive Eksteen and Altaaf Kazi were pictured linking arms and grinning with fans wearing Williams masks.
