The third time around did not prove charming in 2017, but the fourth consecutive Class B title- game appearance by the Queensbury girls' lacrosse team Wednesday night against Niskayuna showed just how much the Spartans have grown.

Through the agony of three championship losses emerged a steely resolve to finish the mission this time against the Silver Warriors.

Paced by five goals from sophomore attack Jordan Bentley, Queensbury withstood some late-game heroics from Niskayuna to register a 9-8 title triumph at Mohonasen High School.

"The past three years, this is how our season ended. It feels really great to finally come out on top with the win," Queensbury senior attack Rachel Spaulding said.

"It is so nice to get redemption," Queensbury coach Dave Huth said.

Queensbury dropped the 2017 final by a 9-8 margin to Niskayuna. This time around, the Spartans (14-3) flipped that score in their favor and the state's No. 9 squad advances to regional play May 30 against the Section I champion at Fox Lane High School.

"I have never really felt this before," Bentley said. "Coming in and winning for our team and our seniors is definitely a treat."

"This honestly feels better than I thought it would," Huth said.

Huth told his team he had a dream about the final three weeks ago, but his young children woke him up prior to the conclusion of the game.

"I asked them to finish the dream tonight and they did," Huth said.

Wednesday's win was the culmination of a steady build for the Spartans. Queensbury's prolific offense scored its fewest number of goals in a win, upping its goals total to 331.

The Spartans lost their season opener against John Jay and dropped one-goal decisions to Suburban Council Class A powers Guilderland (9-8 in overtime) and Saratoga (16-15).

Niskayuna (11-7) was not going to relinquish its title without a fight. The Silver Warriors watched Bentley scored her fourth and fifth goals in the second half to twice provide Queensbury a two-goal advantage, but the third of the game by Annabelle Conover, with 2:22 remaining, shaved the Silver Warriors' deficit to 9-8.

Niskayuna pressed for the equalizer twice in the final two minutes. Two costly offsides calls negated chances, the second call coming with 53.3 seconds left. The Silver Warriors never regained possession and Queensbury had its first championship since 2012.

"My watch is dinging: I set all sorts of records on my Fitbit watch tonight," Huth said.
