PUNE: The
Swargate police recently arrested a vehicle thief and recovered 11
stolen motorcycles worth Rs 2.35 lakh from him.
Police identified the suspect as
Bharat Shivnath Batule (23) of Bharajwadi in Ahmednagar district. A team led by senior inspector
Chandrakant Bhosale made the arrest.
Inspector
Machhindra Pandit said, police constables Pandharinath Shinde and Shakil Shaikh were on patrolling duty on May 17. “They got a tip-off that one person has stolen a motorcycle from Marketyard and he would be coming at Maharshingar,” Pandit said.
Pandit said that the two constables laid a trap in Maharshinagar and took Batule into custody. “During his questioning, Batule admitted to having stolen the motorcycle. We arrested him and took his police custody,” Pandit said.
Pandit said that during his sustained interrogation in custody, Batule admitted to having stolen many motorcycles from Marketyard and Swargate areas. “We recovered 10 more motorcycles from Batule. Of these, eight were stolen from Marketyard and Swargate. We are yet to trace the owners of two motorcycles,” Pandit said.
Pandit said that the police have also taken action against two persons for purchasing stolen vehicles from Batule. The investigating team comprised assistant inspector Prakash More, sub-inspector
Samadhan Kadam and police constable Santosh Kshirsagar.
