Egyptian blogger Wael Abbas detained: lawyer

Egyptian blogger and Wael Abbas, known for standing up against police violence, was arrested overnight at his home and taken to an unknown location, his said today.

Abbas's confirmed he had been detained.

"I am in touch with his family," told AFP. "And what has happened is a kidnapping, not an arrest." The blogger was arrested by heavily armed police and blindfolded before being taken away, according to Egypt's Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, run by Eid.

"We are currently trying to find out where he is," Eid added.
