A 25-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after his bike hit a hydraulic machine parked on a road near Matunga.

The man, Ashish Ramesh Singh, a Parel resident, was driving rashly and lost control and hit the machine on Wednesday. The Matunga police registered a case and will investigate further.

According to the police, the accident took place at 12.25am on Nathalal D Mehta flyover, Matunga. Railway work was going on at the bridge and the hydraulic machine was parked with a barricade installed near it as a precaution.

Singh, who works in a cloth shop, was accompanied by his friend Nilesh Uttam Gholap, a vegetable vendor at Dadar. Like every other day, Singh had picked up Gholap from Dadar on his motorcycle MH 43 AM 9113 and was driving towards Kurla to drop off the latter when he hit the machine.

“Both of them were shifted to Sion Hospital, where Singh succumbed to his injuries. Gholap who is seriously injured is undergoing treatment,” said an official.

The complainant, 53-year-old Arjun Uttam Shelke, an official with Matunga police, has registered a case against Singh under sections 304 (A) , 279, 338 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code.
